Indian democracy is the largest active democracy, in the world because the election has been organized in times and people of India participate and cast their democratic rights regularly. They elect their representatives from lower to upper houses. But what does the democracy mean? Is democracy confined within the election festival and people’s participation, sometimes which is due to fear and threat? The meaning of democracy varies according to the class categories of people in India. The upper elite thinks, democracy is that process where they would direct and control the government. The government should not go against them. They can easily slap the back of the Prime Minister and there is no barrier of protocol. For instance, Mukesh Ambani clapped the back of Mr. Modi in an event. Then, to the next -middle class, democracy means what the government provides benefits in bank interest, subsidy, facility of IT job in home town or the opportunity to get placement on outside the country and so forth. To the lower class or poorer class/patricians, democracy means how much dole to be enjoyed or to be availed. They cast their democratic rights to get some relief only. Nothing else is about the democracy to them. The democracy means an authority and power of a political party. They are always ready to participate in political procession, meeting and so forth because of this they would get a token food packed, and even sometimes token money.
Indian democracy has created a political caste. Leaders or politicians are all in all. They are masters in all trades. What is their educational background does not matter? No service is entitled to provide benefits what they enjoy as leaders. The leaders in the rule are always supreme authoritative role players. What they do, no one is allowed to criticize. An intellectual would put into the jail, if he/she criticizes the government and opponents would be raided by Enforcement Department or CBI. Posting of comments in social media would be scanned and would be considered as cyber-criminal for criticism of the government. Police are the security force of political party in rule. They always serve the political parties in rule whenever and whatever requires.
‘It is fairly well established that corruption is costly, both in terms of efficiency and equity in the provision of public services in developing countries. However, evidence suggests that if the political leadership is committed, corrupt institutions can change rapidly Therefore, the persistence and high incidence of corruption in low income democracies.’ But corruption has become easy in the hands of the political leaders. They are experts to collect levies from old age/widows pensioners, MGNEGRA beneficiaries, rationing, tree plantations, disaster reliefs, and so forth. Cut money has become the official language. But leaders would claim they are dedicated to the country and their countrymen. The greatness of this democracy is that it controls and directs every aspect of daily life of commons. The leaders dictate where to go and how to go, what to eat from where, what to dress, when and how. The people have no freedom of choice.
Dead body politics is a common incident. Political leaders organize groupism and murder to create either an environment of fear or an environment of sympathy to win election. The dead body gets an honour of the martyr. Finally, it may conclude that the list of misfortune is always increasing and it is making stronger the basis of the political democracy of India.
